Villoldo, Alberto: MENDING THE PAST AND HEALING THE FUTURE

I was very fortunate to spend many years with the Laika, master seers of the Inka nation, where I learned the ancient healing skills I practise today.

Despite my training in Western science, I learned from them to open my inner vision. I discovered the maps to the Lower World of our past and to the Upper World of our becoming, and the techniques of soul retrieval and destiny retrieval.

The three worlds
The Laika divide the collective unconscious of all humanity into three parts: the Lower, Middle, and Upper Worlds. These aren't physical places, but rather archetypal and energetic domains. The world we live in, where we work and raise our families, is the Middle World; the Upper World is the invisible domain of our destiny and our spirit; and the Lower World, where the record of all human history is held, is the realm of the soul. Now, in the Middle World, we perceive time to be linear – tomorrow always follows today – so it's difficult to imagine how we could travel into the past or future. But by using the technique known as 'journeying' – a unique state of consciousness that you enter through guided meditations and breathing exercises – we can visit the Upper and Lower Worlds, and it's here that time loops and wormholes into the past and the future.

By journeying to the Lower World, where your childhood and your former lifetimes reside, you can recover the lost parts of your soul. These soul parts will take the form of beings: a frightened seven-year-old, an anguished mother, or even a cruel taskmaster. You can learn their stories, heal their wounds, and write new contracts that will free them from their burdens; then you can retrieve these healed soul parts and bring them back to the present. In the Lower World, you can also discover your hidden gifts, which you may use in your everyday life in the Middle World, and you can retrieve a power animal who will put you back in touch with your natural instincts.

Journeying to the Upper World
Having done that, you may go further. You may also journey to the Upper World to retrieve your highest destiny, in order to manifest the meaning and purpose of your life. In this way, you can heal the future as well as mending the past. The first four levels of the Upper World represent four stages of awareness of your own nature. In the first stage, you experience God as outside yourself, which is common to most religions. In the second, you discover that God is within you through a process of self-inquiry. The classic question here is 'Who am I?' and, later, 'Who is it that's asking this question?' In the third stage, you experience God as working through you; while in the fourth, you discover God working as you. God is no longer working through you, there's only God working, playing, and praying.

Beyond this level is the fifth world, where you can journey to find your original self, as well as who you'll be after you die. This self can inform you beyond your parents and your genes, drawing wisdom from your timeless self, and allowing you to access your possible destinies. It remembers who you've been in all of your former incarnations, and it knows the forms, shapes and histories that you've lived. Your original self knows that while you've lived all those lives, you're not those people. You are much more – you're God masquerading as yourself.

Journeying into the fifth tier, you can move beyond your genetics, ancestral, and personal histories, as well as childhood traumas and the cultures and beliefs with which you were raised. Such a journey can steer you beyond your experiences from previous lifetimes to embody who you're becoming, both as an individual and as part of the species. In the Timeless Now, you already are who you're becoming, and when you journey to the fifth world, you will realize this. Unlike the lower domains of the Upper World that are still bound to time, the fifth world is completely outside of it. It's as if you're sitting on the banks of a river that flows in all directions, and you can observe all of the future swirling by you.

Dreaming the world into being
As we recognize and embrace our timeless self, we'll be able to grow new bodies and new destinies, which will serve our entire species. In other words, as we heal, the world will heal; as we change, the world will change. No longer guided by the force of karma, humankind will begin to break free of what keeps us bound to strife and conflict, and we'll finally grow into Homo luminous.

Inka, Hopi and Mayan elders sit in meditation, envisioning the world they want their grandchildren to inherit – one in which the rivers and air are clean, there's food for all, and people live in peace with one another. They journey along our collective time lines to find a more harmonious future. This is not the probable future, because they already know what that will be: a world much like the one we're now experiencing – filled with pollution, devastation and war. Instead, they track for a possible future, no matter how improbable, where people live in harmony with nature, and peace with each other. The sages of old called this 'dreaming the world into being'.

This is our ultimate task today: to look through a narrow window into the future to find what our species is becoming 10,000 years from now, and to bring that vision back into the present to inform the person we're becoming today. In this way, we can consciously participate in our own evolution to grow bodies that age, heal and die differently.

We can break free of the grip of fate, which tells us that we're the result of events that happened to us when we were 12 years old (or even from 12 lifetimes ago), or that genes we inherited from our parents are waiting to express themselves in a serious malady. When we track our destinies, we can be who we're becoming, not who we've been.

This is your task today. Remember: You are the one you've been waiting for.
