When Margaret Starbird started writing this book she was a strictly mainstream Catholic theologian aiming to disprove once and for all the modern theory that Jesus may have been married, with descendants who carried on his bloodline in Western Europe. By the time she finished, however, she had quite a different story to tell, as the evidence she found to support the 'bloodline' theory provided impossible to to refute. Her extensive study of heraldry, symbolism, medieval art, mythology, psychology and the Bible itself lead her irresistibly to the conclusion that the bride of Jesus truly did exist - the same woman who anointed him with precious unguent from her 'alabaster jar'. The suppression of this knowledge - that a man and a woman had cooperated in the manifestation of the Christ - was, she says, a crime against humanity. For it contributed to hugely to the utter distortion and emasculation of the teachings of Jesus and the ensuing two millennia of violence and oppression in the name of 'religion'. Nevertheless, despite the most strenuous efforts to wipe out all memory of the truth, the knowledge of the Jesus-Mary manifestation has been handed down in secret to this day.
