If you are a spiritual practitioner of one sort or another, you may be tempted to place what is said in this writing within a practice you are familiar with. It takes close reading and intimate feeling to come to realize that a new form of spirituality is being described—a spirituality of radical receptivity. A spirituality of ‘Yes,’ no matter what the conditions. This ‘Yes’ does not signify resignation but rather begins with a receiving of what is given, taking it all into the Silence, making inner contact with an unknown dimension that has not been spoken of before, entering into the very substance of this dimension and finding it to be, when we are one with it, the creating substance for the New Human Being—and the New Earth.

The narrowness of the actual has cut off the infinity of the real. The writing speaks of making contact with the “potential Power,” the Power of Potentia. The simulated world has reduced this irreducible Power to “energy.” Energy is now a completely confused term, carrying with it a perverted understanding of Aristotle that anything actual has to come from something actual. Spiritual and metaphysical work that places 'energy' at the center of all its explanations does not realize that it has fallen into line with the corporate conglomerate who, long ago, met in a congress and decided to appropriate the term “energy” as indicative of the unending movement of material progress. Thus, the true meaning of the term “energy,” “energia,” which means “formative force,” has been appropriated by materialism to mean unending progress through material forces. The sense of the Power of Potentia, much more prevalent in Plato, has been lost altogether. Thus, when I hear the term “energy,” showing up time and time again in classes, I don’t know if people are talking about spiritual reality or gas.

The basis of this writing is contact with the Power of Potentia. It is the ever-present, real presence of what could be that is in union with every particle of what is. It is the presence of the “coming-into-being,” of “possibility” within the actual. When these two dimensions are seen and inwardly felt as one, we have entered into the power of Love. Love is the united activity of the Power of Potentia in conjunction with the actual. If this fullness of reality is contemplated for even a short time, a new, flexible, ever-changing, dynamic framework for understanding this text will arise within. For example, within this understanding it is hardly surprising that this group of prisoners encounters the presence of Christ. Christ is the perfect union of the potentia of the human being—what the human being could become—with the actual person of Jesus. Here we have the union of Potentia-Actual, and thus a being of pure Love.

There is a foundational reality to be experienced that leads to everything that is spoken of in this writing. It is the reality of Wisdom. She is a Presence, not the capacity of our being wise. Wisdom is the spiritual Being of the interconnectedness of the Whole. When these prisoners were trapped there in the darkness, what they finally came to experience surrounding them was Wisdom. They were not separated from the nexus of the Whole, and they came to realize that their separation was only physical. The dark surrounds constituted the mental picture of where they were. In these conditions, turned inward, they contacted another reality than the mental picturing: the simultaneity of being surrounded outwardly by Wisdom, the activity of the Whole, which, when taken in, becomes Love, the simultaneity of which becomes the substance of what they speak of as sound (that is, tone) and color. Tone-color becomes the new substance, the radiance, for creating the New Human Being and the New Earth.
