 Jesus was born in the spring, which is why Christmas cards are full of shepherds tending their lambs in the fields. There were no lambs in snowy December in Bethlehem.
The Holy Fathers of the early Christian church could not decide a date on which to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It was not until the fifth century AD that the Council of Rome settled on the 25th December.
Throughout the centuries all the other great Avatars considered to be of virgin birth were said to be born on that date: Krishna, Buddha, Lao-Tsze, Horus, the Egyptian god Ra, Zoroaster, Cyrus, king of Persia, Plato, Apollonius, Quetzalcoatl among others.
On 25th December there is a time of cosmic change when special energies are available to people everywhere. They wanted the masses to be in a relaxed, receptive mood, attending ceremonies rather than at work, so that they would benefit.
