As the New Year arrives, customary resolutions are made, setting ourselves often impossible tasks of restriction. The ‘I will give up this or that’ approach has never worked for me long enough to enjoy any benefits! So I prefer to approach the new year with a resolution of intention, not to deny myself, but to bring into my life the virtue of a chosen quality. Its message of spiritual wisdom transforms each precious and personal moment into a positive experience.
Last year I chose Courage, facing the daily and ever-changing challenges with the deepest bravery I could find within me. You may find, as I did, that filling your soul with a positive virtue illuminates the way forward more clearly, and calms any present difficulty. Choose your virtue as you would choose a friend or companion, to be your guide and soul supporter on your journey.
Working with the virtue of Honesty brings an openness and truth, a space to know yourself and others, free from judgement. Without honesty and integrity we build castles in the sky, and reality is lost.
Patience, a virtue that often escapes me, brings the gift of surrender, enabling us to wait calmly and allow the inherent wisdom within us all to be acknowledged. To be acknowledged is to lay a solid foundation on which to build a new understanding.
Balance can be gained by working with opposite virtues: learning when to speak and when to listen, to stand back or to move forward; allowing the energy of both male and female attributes within us to rise into purpose.
The virtue of Choice is endless, and so are the benefits to yourself and to all those who meet you. As we recognise that there is always a choice in any situation, the illuminated soul is truly empowered.
Working with Honesty, Patience, Balance and Choice brings a sense of personal freedom and ultimate transformation.
So, why find a virtue? The purpose is not to deny yourself by highlighting your inadequacies, so as to reinforce a negative belief, but by finding the courage to look within and work with the patterns it highlights, we are able to release worn-out limitations. The positive aspects of that understanding fill the empty spaces into which we fall when our soul loses its way.
So, as the year reveals its challenges, may we all receive the ultimate virtue: the Blessing of Peace.
