Besides being a great friend, member of Cygnus almost since it began in 1991, and ex-member of the Cygnus team, Mary is a wonderful healer and homeopath who has helped Cygnus and its staff in all kinds of ways over the years.
Dear Friends,
Recently, in fact for some time, I have been having a battle with my old friend sugar! We have been ‘feeding off’ each other over many years. As a homeopath I am very aware of the essence of sugar as a remedy: self-deception, cutting you off from your own truth, suppressing the emotions and encouraging denial. These are reasons enough in themselves to take the upper hand, but I have had the added incentive, or pressure, from my two daughters: Karen, a nutritionist, and Katie, a nurse. By way of encouragement, Katie sent me a card through the post, which I would like to share with you. It is called ‘The Lady and the Chocolate’ [Copyright Edward Monkton www.edwardmonkton.com].
Chocolate: You want me lady don't you. You want me, you want me. Lady: No, chocolate, I do not want you, for after the initial pleasure, there is sickness and guilt. Chocolate: That, lady, is my Reason For Existence. Are you to deny me my reason for existence? Lady: No, chocolate, I would not do that. Chocolate: Thank you. (A munching sound is heard, followed by a sigh of pleasure.)
What a laugh I had. I almost ran to the fridge to engage in a moment of chocolate heaven! But instead I read again the words before me on the card and a different meaning began to emerge.
What is our Reason For Existence?
Is it, like the chocolate, to bring short term pleasure followed by sickness and then guilt? Or is it, like the lady, to fulfil the meaning of others’ life purpose by denying the true sense of our own. Perhaps it can be about a balance between the two.
As we start our life’s journey on earth, we are born into situations that shape us. We may be a brother or sister, a son or daughter, and become an aunt or uncle, father, husband, mother or wife. On some level these are roles we have chosen and they become our human existence, and yet we are far more than that.
I was born a daughter, and a sister, and have become a wife and mother also, living a daily existence within those roles. Each role affects us and others without exception, for each of us is a mirror reflecting where we are at any given time. What we give, we reflect and share with all. This is the life path – or Sacred Contract as Caroline Myss calls it – that we all follow; our journey, our destiny, our task to fulfil, engaging in a life that is personal and yet connected totally to the wider universe.
Daily life holds many levels of existence and it is important to acknowledge the significance of them all. We may not be remembered by the world like the Great Masters, those who have left their mark on humanity like Moses, Christ, Buddha, Gandhi etc., and yet how we exist in our own daily lives, and share those lives with others, is of the same importance. By connecting to people in your family and close circle, you connect to the extended family, the universe. So enjoy this connection, in whatever way life shows you, and be aware of the important role you play. This is all we can do, and need to do.
Many people I have spoken to recently have commented on how their awareness of this connection has become even more powerful and relevant to them, and this has been so in my own life also, especially over the past few months. It seems we are all undergoing a period of change and renewal. ‘Not another one!’ I hear you cry.....
The challenges facing this planet are immense. We are not separate from each other, and so changes that are taking place all over the world are felt by us all. The vibrations of them ripple outwards, reaching each one of us. We may not be living in a war-zone, an area of poverty or devastation, but its energy can be felt everywhere. So it is part of our ‘reason for existence’ to use this energy now in positive ways for the planet, to turn to face our own shadows, our own truths, and be part of the amazing shifts we are seeing everywhere.
Wherever you find yourself at this time – perhaps you are having to move home, or job, change a relationship, start or finish a venture – take heart in the midst of chaos. You are not alone. Changes can be scary but are necessary. So give freely of yourself to the situation. Try to remain in the present moment. Enjoy the task that has been given to you, remembering that all things are transient and that in moving with the universal purpose you are a vital part of the global movement towards peace. We exist as humans to feel the pleasure and pain of personal growth, but not to be consumed by them. Yield to the experience, acknowledge them by recognising when things have run their course, then let go, and move on to exist in new ways.
I know we have often read these ‘truths’ before, but it is good to be reminded of them again, and supported by remembering that we are neither alone nor insignificant in our struggle. So, for my part in the growth of myself and those around me, I will observe the signs along the way of life – be they crossroads, T junctions, stop or give way signs – treading the path but not letting fear hold me within the all too familiar boundaries, having courage to explore, and permitting myself the odd bar of chocolate along the way.
All things are possible. I am the grain of sand that becomes the desert. I am the droplet of water that fills the ocean, and I am the sapling that is the forest, and so are you. So let us be strong in our individuality and rejoice in the strength of the universe as a whole. Let us reveal to ourselves and share with others the gifts we have been blessed with, by birth or by experience. The internal knowledge we all have is needed, and has to be heard.
Sing your experience as a verse, part of the song sung by the soul of the world. Examine every day of your life to find its meaning, however small that may seem. Listen to the earth as she breathes, to the universal pulse that runs through all our lives. Remember with humility our connection to each other and to the divine. Surrender to the guiding hand, which we may not see, but that touches us all. Have courage to show your light through the mists of earthly confusion. Dance to rhythms you thought you had forgotten. Bring truth to each day. Find joy in your being. Be still, be silent, be aware, be peace, and you will know..... ....your Reason For Existence.
These thoughts have been shared with you as part of my reason for existence, and I offer them with LOVE - the Energetic Vibration Of Life.
A munching sound is now heard, followed by a sigh of....... Ah well! I am human!
